Softball Recap: Orange Has No Trouble Against Hawken

Orange's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Hawken Hawks as they made off with a 17-3 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-0 on April 9th.

Clare Hess made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Hess was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Orange got a massive performance out of Kelsey Lewis, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, Lewis is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Kayla Glazer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Orange always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hawken only posted an OBP of .182.

Orange pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-5 Beachwood and 1-3 Chagrin Falls (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.9% over those games). As for Hawken, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Orange is set to square off against their familiar foe Chagrin Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hawken will take on rival Beachwood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
