Libertyville is 8-2 against Lake Forest since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Scouts at 4:45 p.m. Libertyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Libertyville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Grayslake Central just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since April 22, 2024.
Libertyville got a good showing from Anthony Fry, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Fry has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ryan Wilberding and Carson Holmes stepped up to the plate in a big way. Wilberding went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Holmes went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Glenbrook South hit Lake Forest with a nine-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Scouts came up short against the Titans, falling 11-1. The Scouts haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Lake Forest saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bink Hartline, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Libertyville's record is now 24-3. As for Lake Forest, their record now sits at 12-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Libertyville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Libertyville beat Lake Forest 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scouts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
