2A-2 Region II District 8 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Cooper extended the longest winning streak in 2A-2 Region II District 8 this week by beating Alba-Golden, 49-15. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Cooper moved up to 640 from 683 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs were able to make move up by topping the Panthers 49-15.
Cooper's dynamic duo of Kasey Leatherwood and Jordan Sillivan proved tough for Alba-Golden to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Leatherwood threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns and Sillivan had 55 yards receiving. Quile Wady helped Cooper's passing attack out by catching two balls for 52 yards.
Kelton Scales was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 166 yards on 10 carries as Clarksville topped Gary Schultz's team. Devontray Forte also contributed to the rushing game with 128 yards on the ground.
Rivercrest's Erik Richards and Markevius Traylor have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A-2 Region II District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Richards has thrown for 1300 yards this season, while Traylor, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 34 catches for 520 yards. Thomas Weissert from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 929 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Edgewood takes on second place Cooper. Edgewood bested Como-Pickton last week, while Cooper defeated Alba-Golden.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bulldogs and the Bulldogs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Cooper comes in having scored 218 this season, while Edgewood has scored 302. The Bulldogs scored 49 points last week as they bested the Panthers.
The Tigers took down Chisum 57-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Scales caught one passes for 29 yards in the win.
