Not much got past Hannah Welsh, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Hoke County off the board. Those 13 strikeouts gave Welsh a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Gray's Creek's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Amber Miller, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Miller has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Purnell Swett made easy work of Seventy-First on Wednesday and carried off a 22-1 win. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Braci Woods was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base.
In other batting news, Kara Hunt was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Lanna Haggans was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Gray's Creek's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Purnell Swett, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
Gray's Creek took their win against Purnell Swett in their previous matchup on March 4th by a conclusive 14-2. Will Gray's Creek repeat their success, or does Purnell Swett has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
