The Apollo Hawks will challenge the Cesar Chavez Champions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Apollo has struggled recently with 16 defeats in a row, while Cesar Chavez will arrive with four straight victories.
Shadow Ridge hit Apollo with a five-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks came up short against the Stallions, falling 11-1.
Taylor Veloz was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cesar Chavez made easy work of Camelback on Tuesday and carried off a 13-3 win. The Champions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Saree Ochoa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Cesar Chavez let Gianna Jaquez and Jade Garcia run wild. Jaquez went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Garcia went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave Jaquez a new career-high. Amaya Acosta was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cesar Chavez hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive games.
Apollo's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Cesar Chavez, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Apollo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cesar Chavez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Apollo got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Cesar Chavez by a conclusive 14-4 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Champions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
