After flying high against IDEA Frontier College Prep last Tuesday, the Progreso Red Ants came back down to earth. Progreso was outmatched by Lyford on the road and fell 57-22. Having soared to a lofty 62 points in the game before, Progreso couldn't push the score so high this time.
Several Red Ants players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophia Pecina, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and six steals. Pecina is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Galvan, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Progreso's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Lyford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Progreso will head out on the road to face off against IDEA Riverview at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. IDEA Riverview comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Lyford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against IDEA Frontier College Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. IDEA Frontier College Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1527th, while Lyford is ranked 723rd).
