The Alcovy Tigers lost against the Griffin Bears back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Alcovy might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Griffin an easy 61-36 win. While losing is never fun, Alcovy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while Griffin is ranked 159th).
Alcovy's loss came despite strong showings from Janae Hutcherson and Abigail Pollett. Hutcherson scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Pollett scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Alcovy has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Griffin, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alcovy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Salem at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Salem is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Griffin, they will head out on the road to face off against Union Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Union Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Saturday.
