Slaton and Muleshoe are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but likely not for long. The Tigers will challenge the Mules at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Slaton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Slaton will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Idalou on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 18-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won six in a row.
Slaton got a massive performance out of Anelise Luera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Aracellie Muniz, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Slaton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Idalou only posted an OBP of .353.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Muleshoe made sure to put some runs up on the board against Littlefield on Monday. The Mules walked away with a 13-10 win over the Wildcats.
Aaliyah Dominguez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Dylynn Villanueva also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Slaton's record now sits at 13-8-1. As for Muleshoe, their record is now 16-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Slaton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Muleshoe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Slaton came up short against Muleshoe when the teams last played back in March, falling 7-3. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
