The Barnwell Warhorses will challenge the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Barnwell 2.9, Ridge Spring-Monetta 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Barnwell and South Aiken had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Warhorses lost 8-2 to the Thoroughbreds on Friday. The game marked the Warhorses' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Barnwell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Croft, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Ridge Spring-Monetta entered their tilt with Williston-Elko on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Blue Devils.
Adalynn Holsomback spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trinity Burdett, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Whitfield, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Ridge Spring-Monetta hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.
Ridge Spring-Monetta's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Barnwell, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Barnwell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ridge Spring-Monetta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Barnwell got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 against Ridge Spring-Monetta by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Warhorses repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
