The Leigh Longhorns will head out on the road to square off against the Branham Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leigh knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully Branham likes a good challenge.
Even though Evergreen Valley scored an imposing 65 points on Friday, Leigh still came out on top. Leigh managed a 69-65 victory over Evergreen Valley.
It was another big night for Caleb Asante, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 15 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Smith, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Branham earned a 66-53 victory over Oak Grove on Friday. Given Branham's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Oak Grove is ranked 619th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leigh has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Branham, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road.
Leigh came up short against Branham in their previous matchup back in January, falling 64-60. Can Leigh avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
