The East Chapel Hill Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Riverside-Durham Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Chapel Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
East Chapel Hill's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Hillside with a sharp 18-0 win. The matchup marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season.
Lauren Steiner was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Tesla Goldstein, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
East Chapel Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, Riverside-Durham had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Falcons. The game was the first time the Pirates have beaten the Falcons on their field since April 18, 2019.
Grace Arrington made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Arrington wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nehir Volkan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
East Chapel Hill is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Riverside-Durham, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Chapel Hill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Riverside-Durham struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Chapel Hill took their victory against Riverside-Durham when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
