Rhett Detering looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Salem's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 6-3 (and 6-10 when he doesn't).
Mattoon came out on top against Newton on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run seventh inning. The Greenwave had just enough and edged out the Eagles 8-6.

Mattoon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newton only managed seven hits.
Mattoon has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 12-13.
