Madison-Grant extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northfield Norsemen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Argylls have suffered since May 17, 2025.
Olivia Dunham put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Savannah Sites was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Pyper Howard, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Northfield, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 15.3 runs this season.
Like Madison-Grant, Northfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Gemma Haupert. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Haupert was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Haupert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ali Copeland, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Copeland has posted since back in April of 2025.
Looking ahead, Madison-Grant will be playing at home against Alexandria-Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northfield, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-9 defeat against Elwood on the 17th.
