The Tallmadge Blue Devils will face off against the Holy Name Green Wave at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tallmadge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Tallmadge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They came out on top against Chardon by a score of 8-5.
Larissa Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Naomi Richardson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Leila Staszak was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Tallmadge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 12-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Holy Name entered their tilt with Ursuline on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Fighting Irish.
Holy Name also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Reagan Vavro gave up only one earned run on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. Vavro has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Holy Name saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Soos, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Tallmadge's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Name, their record now sits at 19-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tallmadge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Holy Name struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
