The Osceola Warriors will challenge the Shorecrest Prep Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Osceola is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Osceola proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Land O' Lakes. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Aliyah Lai spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Osceola got a massive performance out of Angelina Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI Rodriguez has posted since back in February. Bri Shephard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Osceola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Shorecrest Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Northside Christian on Monday by a score of 12-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Samantha Beltran made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Beltran was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Bobbie Strus was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madi Bidwell, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Osceola's win bumped their record up to 17-6. As for Shorecrest Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Osceola hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Shorecrest Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
