It was a good run, but the Neumann Celtics unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 57-43 bruising from River Ridge. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Neumann has scored all season.
Neumann's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Martin, who scored 21 points. The contest was Martin's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Hailey Scheffler was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Neumann struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Lauren Lee, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for River Ridge. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaree Nichols, who scored 13 points along with six steals.
Neumann's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-2. As for River Ridge, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with that victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Neumann will take on Southwest Florida Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest Florida Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 630th, while Neumann is ranked 33rd). As for River Ridge, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Academy of the Holy Names at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Academy of the Holy Names focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
