The Discovery Canyon Thunder will face off against the Denver South Ravens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Discovery Canyon knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Denver South likes a good challenge.
Discovery Canyon is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Palmer Ridge just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. While the Thunder didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bears 5-1 in the first period.
Discovery Canyon got a massive performance out of Nate Singleton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Carson Seeley, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Denver South was able to grind out a solid win over Montbello on Friday, taking the game 9-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ravens.
Brody Pino and Johnny Komarowsky were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Pino struck out ten batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Komarowsky pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Pino a new career-high. At bat, Pino went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Komarowsky went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leo Royer, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Landon Leu was another, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Denver South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montbello only posted a batting average of .200.
Discovery Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Denver South, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Discovery Canyon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .494. However, it's not like Denver South struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
