Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Dawson Eagles proved on Friday. They blew past Alvin 74-38 at home. Given Dawson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 802nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dawson was led to victory by Bryce Davis and Maleek Sim?us. Davis went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 2 assists, while Sim?us scored 19 points along with six assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Charles Anderson, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, Alvin still got an impressive performance from Trey Falcon, who scored 14 points.
Dawson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Alvin, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dawson will challenge the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alief Hastings has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9. As for Alvin, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Alief Taylor focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
