Austin Cole threw three touchdowns and
Chad Hansen caught three as
Moorpark (Calif.) defeated
Royal (Simi Valley, Calif.) 35-10 on Saturday.
The Musketeers were up 28-3 at the half after taking the lead on a Cole touchdown pass to Hansen in the first quarter.
Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 25 entering the fourth.
A 21-point second quarter helped Moorpark secure the big victory. MHS scored on a touchdown run by Cole, a
Aaron Stanton touchdown run and a touchdown pass by Cole to Hansen in the quarter.
The Musketeers' standout player in the win was Cole. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown.
The Highlanders' lone touchdown came on a 6-yard pass in the third quarter.
Moorpark came into the game allowing 14.6 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, MHS came away with a 35-21 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Royal, which notched a 21-20 victory over Simi Valley in its previous outing. With the win the Musketeers extended their winning streak to four games.
Moorpark (7-1) goes up against Oaks Christian in a Marmonte - West game matchup next week, while Royal (5-3) locks horns with St. Bonaventure in a Marmonte - East game.
