Church Farm extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They fell 14-11 to the Jenkintown Drakes. Even if the Griffens couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Savion Weaver-Diaz put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Weaver-Diaz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Emmanuel Parsons was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Caleb Fulmer, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Jenkintown's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Church Farm, Jenkintown also got a great game from a two-way player: Nick Sulock. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Sulock was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Vnenchak, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Grayson Duffey was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Church Farm will challenge rival Dock Mennonite at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Jenkintown is set to take on their familiar foe Calvary Christian Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for the Drakes: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home dating back to last season, while the Cougars have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
