Cranston East is 7-2 against Smithfield since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Thunderbolts will host the Sentinels at 4:45 p.m. Smithfield took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Cranston East, who comes in off a win.
Cranston East and Cranston West faced off in a cross-town battle on Monday. The Thunderbolts were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Falcons. That looming 10-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Thunderbolts yet this season.
Cameron Boulanger tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jeu Leon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Edward McClung was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Smithfield faced South Kingstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Sentinels fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 2-1. The Sentinels haven't had much luck with the Rebels recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Tucker Byrnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits.
On the hitting side, Moe Villandry made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Sean Dwyer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
The win made it two in a row for Cranston East and bumps their season record up to 5-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Smithfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
Cranston East couldn't quite finish off Smithfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Will the Thunderbolts have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
