The Overton Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Stem Preparatory Academy The Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Overton turned things around against Stratford on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 63-34 victory over the Spartans. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-10.
Overton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tahj McLemore, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jehmel Madison, who posted 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stem Preparatory Academy). They snuck past RePublic with a 71-65 victory last Tuesday. With that win, the The Chargers brought their scoring average up to 54.5 points per game.
Stem Preparatory Academy's win came from a few key players Overton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nasille Adam, who put up 15 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Syncere Pharr, who had 17 points.
Stem Preparatory Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Overton, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Overton has made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 8 three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Stem Preparatory Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 three-pointers. Given Overton's sizable advantage in that area, Stem Preparatory Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Overton against Stem Preparatory Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, as the team secured a 66-29 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Overton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
