The West Perry Mustangs will face off against the Mifflin County Huskies at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, West Perry turned things around against James Buchanan on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 9-3 win. The Mustangs not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 12-5).
The team relied heavily on Novah Garland, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Addi Lupfer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
West Perry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Buchanan only posted a batting average of .200.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Mifflin County brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They walked away with a 15-12 victory over Altoona on Wednesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Huskies' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Malaina Maxwell was excellent, going 1-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Baker, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
West Perry's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Mifflin County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-9.
Mifflin County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Perry has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Mifflin County, though, as they've been averaging 11.6 hits. Given West Perry's sizable advantage in that area, the Huskies will need to find a way to close that gap.
West Perry might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Mifflin County in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
