Fairmont and Beavercreek are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Fairmont Firebirds will head out on the road to face off against the Beavercreek Beavers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairmont will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Fairmont was able to grind out a solid win over Wayne, taking the game 40-33. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Fairmont has scored all year.
Fairmont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylah Thornton, who scored 11 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Adams, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Beavercreek earned a 54-41 win over Miamisburg on Wednesday. Given Beavercreek's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Miamisburg is ranked 364th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fairmont's record is now 7-1. As for Beavercreek, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Things could have been worse for Fairmont, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-36 loss to Beavercreek when the teams last played back in February. Can Fairmont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
