The Hertford County Bears entered their tilt with the Holmes Aces with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Hertford County managed a 48-44 win over Holmes on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Keveon Rodgers had a dynamite game for Hertford County, throwing for 389 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Rodgers was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Another player making a difference was Rimiez Williams, who picked up 186 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Defeat or not, Holmes got some senior leadership from Divon Ward who rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry and Jonathan Spears who gained 179 total yards and a touchdown. Ward hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Hertford County's victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Holmes, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Hertford County will be playing at home against St. Pauls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Holmes, they will head out on the road to face off against Midway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Cody Ammons and Ward.
