Basketball Recap: South Bend Riley Makes It Three in a Row at Home

South Bend Riley's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Mishawaka Marian Knights by a score of 54-46. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 38-28 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.

Among those leading the charge was Lafaye Gibson, who went 5 for 6 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Farmer, who posted nine points and seven steals.

South Bend Riley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Mishawaka Marian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kariya Byer, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds, and Fane Sete, who earned eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals. That was a full 50% of Mishawaka Marian's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Boser, who put up seven points and nine boards.

South Bend Riley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Mishawaka Marian, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Bend Riley will welcome South Bend St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mishawaka Marian, they will host South Bend Washington at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Bend Washington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Mishawaka Marian likes a good challenge.
