The Wakulla War Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Franklin County by a score of 38-35. Wakulla has struggled against Franklin County recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Wakulla's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kyendra Thomas, who scored 19 points along with nine steals and six rebounds, and Amariyah Donaldson who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Thomas scored a full 54.3% of Wakulla's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Franklin County found their leader in underclassman Gregreyauna Griffin, who scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Sa'ryiah McNair, who scored six points.
Wakulla bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.2 points per game. As for Franklin County, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wakulla will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wewahitchka at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. As for Franklin County, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Taylor County at 5:00 p.m. on December 19th. Taylor County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
