The Springstead Eagles waltzed into their contest Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 37-26 win over Fivay. Given Springstead's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Fivay is ranked 421st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Malanie Francis, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Springstead's points. J'ziyah Munford was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Springstead's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. As for Fivay, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Springstead's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Gulf at 8:00 p.m. on December 27th. Fivay will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Plant City at 9:55 a.m. on December 27th. Plant City comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
