Softball Recap: Delphi Community Wins Going Away Against Eastern

Delphi Community lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Eastern, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. The Oracles were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Comets on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Oracles, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Mairi Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sami Leopard was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Ava Mills was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Delphi Community hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive matchups.

Delphi Community is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-13.

Delphi Community has already played their next game, an 8-1 defeat against Seeger on the 25th. As for Eastern, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-3 win against Wabash on the 25th.
