Amherst has gone 9-1 against Sumner-Eddyville-Miller recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. Amherst is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Wilcox-Hildreth: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Amherst blew Wilcox-Hildreth out of the water with a 62-30 final score. The matchup marked the Broncos' most dominant win of the season.
It was another big night for Gavin Davis, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carson Riessland, who posted 13 points and seven boards.
Amherst smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.
Meanwhile, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller lost to Ansley/Litchfield on the road by a 53-36 margin on Tuesday. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 12-8 in the first quarter.
Amherst will have to contain Cohen Rohde as he made an impact in Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's last game. He dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rohde a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Beattie, who scored eight points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Amherst, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Amherst has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sumner-Eddyville-Miller struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Amherst came up short against Sumner-Eddyville-Miller in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 44-39.
