Taryn Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Central Cabarrus got a massive performance out of Kinley Hood, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Hood has posted since back in February. Cecilia Measmer was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Central Cabarrus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Northwest Cabarrus sidestepped Lake Norman Charter for a 2-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Northwest Cabarrus also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Haylee Ellis gave up a run (which was unearned) on two hits.
On the hitting side, Northwest Cabarrus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justyce Johnson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Central Cabarrus' victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Northwest Cabarrus, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Central Cabarrus' speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. Central Cabarrus has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game.
