Whitmore Lake and Lutheran are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2016, but not for long. The Whitmore Lake Trojans will be playing at home against the Lutheran Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Whitmore Lake has four straight wins, Lutheran has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Whitmore Lake will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Greenhills, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Whitmore Lake took down Greenhills 61-46 back in December of 2024. The contest marked the Trojans' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Landon Livingston was a one-man wrecking crew for Whitmore Lake as he went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Dillon, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.
Whitmore Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Lutheran lost to Cabrini on the road by a 59-40 margin on Friday.
Whitmore Lake will need focus on slowing down Jayden Means, one of several Lutheran players who made an impact when they last played. He had eight points. Means is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was John Vermeulen, who posted five points.
Whitmore Lake pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Whitmore Lake has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 36.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Whitmore Lake beat Lutheran 60-48 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Lutheran's Christian Fontaine, who earned 25 points and six rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Whitmore Lake to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
