For the first time this season, Scotus will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pierce Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Scotus has given up an average of 31.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Scotus is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They came up short against Aurora, falling 41-21.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Carson Wessel, who threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 52 yards and one score. Michael Brandt was another key player, picking up 75 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Pierce was not quite Fort Calhoun's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 28-21 to the Pioneers. The loss was the Bluejays' first of the season.
Like Scotus, Pierce lost despite seeing results from several players. Kaiden Fritz led the charge by rushing for 151 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Brock Collison, who rushed for 39 yards and one score.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Bryce Lindstrom for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pierce's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.3.
Pierce didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ryder Theisen.
Having lost for the first time this season, Pierce fell to 3-1. As for Scotus, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Scotus has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 181.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pierce struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 273.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Scotus beat Pierce 14-7 in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Will the Shamrocks repeat their success, or do the Bluejays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
