Bishop O'Connell got a great performance from Shota Fogus as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Fogus has posted since back in March.
At the plate, Bryant James was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucas Grubb, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Bishop O'Connell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Flint Hill sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over St. Andrew's Episcopal on Saturday.
Chase Nash spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Asher Ricard was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Saad Ali also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Bishop O'Connell's record is now 19-5. As for Flint Hill, their record now sits at 12-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bishop O'Connell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Flint Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
