Portsmouth West took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-27 win over the Fairland Dragons. This was payback for the Senators, who suffered a 34-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Portsmouth West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Bishop led the charge by rushing for 158 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 51 receiving yards. Bishop's longest rush was for an incredible 96 yards. Brody Hall was another key signal caller, throwing for 211 yards and three TDs on only 13 passes.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Portsmouth West's defense and their five sacks. Fairland's QB won't forget Tilton Rapp anytime soon given he sacked him three times.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portsmouth West will face off against Portsmouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fairland, they will take on Point Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
