The Eastwood Troopers waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They had just enough and edged Americas out 37-34. The win was all the more spectacular given Eastwood's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Americas is ranked 102nd).
Marcus Bennett continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Devin Falk-Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Defeat or not, Americas got some senior leadership from AIDEN MARQUEZ and LAREON JOHNSON. MARQUEZ scored ten points along with two blocks, while JOHNSON. scored 13 points along with two steals. JOHNSON is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played.
Eastwood pushed their record up to 19-9 with that win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Americas, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-3.
Eastwood will head out on the road to take on Socorro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Socorro is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Americas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against El Dorado at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully El Dorado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
