It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Burbank had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 70-62 win over the Roseville Tigers. The victory was nothing new for the Titans as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Burbank was led to victory by Michael Butcher and Julian James-Jardines. Butcher almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine assists, while James-Jardines went 7-for-9 on his way to 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave James-Jardines a new career-high in points. DJ Massey was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 10 points and three steals.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Burbank was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. They racked up 11 more assists than Roseville's also-impressive total of 14.
When it comes to explaining why Roseville lost, don't look at Oreste Yong. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards. Yong is becoming a predictor of Roseville's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 15-6 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyler Ritter, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and six assists.
Burbank's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for Roseville, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-11.
Coming up, Burbank will square off against El Capitan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Capitan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Burbank likes a good challenge. Roseville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
