Baseball Recap: Humphreys County Comes Up Short

Humphreys County dropped to 10-6 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Yazoo County Panthers, falling 14-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-4 on March 3rd.

Humphreys County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Percy Jefferson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. Jefferson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

As for Yazoo County, the win got them back to even at 8-8. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Yazoo County's side, Josh Snow made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Snow is becoming a predictor of Yazoo County's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Snow was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Andrews, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Kennedy, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Humphreys County will venture away from home to face off against Clarksdale at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cowboys' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Yazoo County, they will face off against Edwards at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
