The Berwick Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Wyoming Area Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Berwick put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They blew past Greater Nanticoke Area 16-2. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won six in a row.
Makayla Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Welsh, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Klahold, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4.
Berwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greater Nanticoke Area only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Area waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let MMI Preparatory School get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.
Like Berwick, Wyoming Area also got a great game from a two-way player: Arianna Gaylord. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Gaylord was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Marissa Giardina was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Josie Kivak was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Wyoming Area's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Berwick, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Berwick has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Wyoming Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berwick beat Wyoming Area 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
