The Gibsonburg Golden Bears will challenge the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gibsonburg's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on St. Mary Central Catholic with a sharp 21-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.
Ava Amor made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Cheyenne Reese and Mia Brink did most of the damage at the plate: Reese scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Brink went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave Reese a new career-high. Leah Hall was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Gibsonburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Hopewell-Loudon made sure to put some runs up on the board against St. Joseph Central Catholic on Monday. The Chieftains were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Crimson Streaks.
Like Gibsonburg, Hopewell-Loudon also got a great game from a two-way player: Araceli Velasquez. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Velasquez also allowed three hits, marking her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Landers, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Alekzandrea Jameson, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-4.
Hopewell-Loudon's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-4. As for Gibsonburg, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gibsonburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hopewell-Loudon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gibsonburg skirted past Hopewell-Loudon 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Golden Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
