The Marathon Dolphins will venture away from home to take on the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marathon comes in on three and Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart on five.
Marathon took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Miami Country Day, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dolphins narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Spartans 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dolphins have posted since April 29, 2024.
Madelyn Thornton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on zero hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Shynell McGuire was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elena Eubank, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Immaculata-La Salle 17-0. Considering the Cyclones have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Madelyn Althage looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Diez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Paulina Ros was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Marathon's record is now 8-4. As for Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, their record now sits at 9-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marathon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .595. However, it's not like Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marathon might still be hurting after the 11-4 defeat they got from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in their previous matchup last Thursday. Can the Dolphins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
