Baseball Recap: Varnum Wins Going Away Against Earlsboro

Varnum won the last time they faced Earlsboro and things went their way on Thursday too. Varnum put the hurt on Earlsboro with a sharp 23-3 victory. That 20 run margin sets a new team best for the Whippets this season.

Ben Suarez and Jon Madkins made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Suarez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Madkins didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. At the plate, Suarez scored two runs and stole two bases, while Madkins scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Payton Romines and Alejandro Montesino did most of the damage at the plate: Romines scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-5, while Montesino scored five runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Harjo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

The win made it two in a row for Varnum and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Earlsboro, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Varnum will challenge rival Sasakwa at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Earlsboro is set to square off against their familiar foe New Lima at 4:00 p.m. on April 17.
