Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to 4 on the offensive boards, a fact the Arickaree Bison proved on Friday. They took down Hi-Plains 58-42. Given Arickaree's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Hi-Plains is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arickaree's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but AUSTIN WRIGHT led the charge by scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was JAKE KING, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Hi-Plains' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bex Seaman, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Seaman is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Aiden Cordell was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with two steals.
Arickaree's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Hi-Plains, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Arickaree will head out on the road to square off against Flagler at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Flagler has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Hi-Plains, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Kit Carson at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Kit Carson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
