For the second straight game, Overton will face off against Beckville. The Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Overton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Overton is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Beckville just ended the team's 13-game winning streak on Tuesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (11-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the seven games prior), but the Bearcats' pitcher proved too tough.
For Beckville's part, Hannah Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Rogers has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emily Grandgeorge was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-5. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Mauritzen, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Beckville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .361 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.
Beckville's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-7-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Overton, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 12-1 and their overall record down to 16-9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Overton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Beckville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
