After both having extra time off, Edisto and Colleton County will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Edisto is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Lake Marion 33-7 last Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Tristan Fogle was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Raven McDougal was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with eight stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI.
Edisto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Colleton County entered their tilt with Hilton Head Island last Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Seahawks a 16-0 shutout.
Bre Gerard made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Colleton County let Brooklyn Holmes and Alexia Eversole run wild. Holmes went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs, while Eversole went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lanasia Sanders, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Colleton County's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Edisto, their record is now 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edisto has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 13.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Colleton County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Edisto suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Colleton County when the teams last played back in March. Can Edisto avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
