Gibson Southern gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Evansville Reitz Panthers 3-2. For the Titans, this counts as revenge for the 7-0 win the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.
Kolton Schmitt looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Zach Foster was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Connor Marvel, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gibson Southern will host Castle at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Evansville Reitz, they will be playing at home against North Posey at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
