Westlake is 8-1 against the Hornets since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Westlake Wolverines will be playing at home against the Great Mills Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Westlake sitting on three straight wins and the Hornets on six.
Even though Thomas Stone scored an imposing 57 points on Monday, Westlake still came out on top. In a tight game that could have gone either way, Westlake made off with a 58-57 win over the Cougars.
Westlake got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Darian Canty out in front who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Melvin Newman, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Great Mills scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 84-42 win over Patuxent. Great Mills has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 23 points or more this season.
Jermaine Davis was nothing short of spectacular: he went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 8 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Cameron Brooks was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Westlake's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Great Mills, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Westlake was able to grind out a solid victory over the Hornets in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 78-65. Will Westlake repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
