La Junta (Colo.) scored 28 points in the second quarter to secure a big 55-12 victory over Dolores Huerta Prep (Pueblo, Colo.) on Saturday.
The Tigers scored on a
Tanner Cox touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Elias Altamirano, a touchdown pass by Altamirano to
Joseph Jarmillo and a Altamirano touchdown pass to
Joel Johnson in the quarter.
La Junta was up 41-6 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Taylor Maik in the first quarter.
LJ expanded its lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. The Tigers scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run.
Altamirano stood out for La Junta in the win. He threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Scorpions' lone touchdown came on a 60-yard run in the second quarter.
In a 2A Tri-Peaks game next week Dolores Huerta Prep (2-3) takes on Manitou Springs, and La Junta (4-1) will go up against St. Mary's also in a 2A Tri-Peaks game.
