Hillsboro extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They came up short against the Hoisington Cardinals, falling 11-5. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Nash Dickinson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dalton Philpott made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Hillsboro's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't).
As for Hoisington, they moved to 8-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Like Hillsboro, Hoisington also got a great game from a two-way player: Rhen Galla. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Galla was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Hoisington let Lane French and Brodie Crites run wild. French went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Crites got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most runs French has posted since back in March of 2024. Marcus Ingram was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
While Hillsboro had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
