The South View Tigers came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Lumberton by a score of 47-36. Given South View's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Pirates are ranked 292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South View's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nahmiah Aekins, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Aekins hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Jordynn Parnell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Lumberton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Charley Whitley, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Leira Smith, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lumberton struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South View racked up 14 assists.
South View is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Lumberton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South View will take on the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Purnell Swett is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Lumberton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. Gray's Creek is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
